Taurus USA recently released the new UL 856 handgun, expanding the company’s lightweight, concealed carry pistol lineup with a platform that is ideal for those who favor the straightforward operation of a revolver as their primary or backup defensive firearm.

The new Taurus® UL 856 is chambered for the popular .38 Special cartridge and offers a six-shot cylinder, delivering 20 percent more defensive capacity than conventional five-round compact revolvers yet does so with a pleasingly low-profile. Adding to the UL 856’s concealed carry credentials is the revolver’s lightweight aluminum frame. At 15.7 ounces unloaded, the UL 856 is exceptionally comfortable in multiple carry configurations.

With its DA/SA action and short-spur hammer, the UL 856 can be quickly engaged for defensive work or be used in SA mode for accurate target shooting. Trigger pull in double-action and single-action modes are 10-12 lbs. and 4-6 lbs., respectively.

Although the UL 856 was designed for maximum weight savings, it is a diverse, reliable handgun intended primarily for personal defense. As such, the UL 856 can accommodate ammunition ranging from light target loads to self-defense rounds. Regardless of the ammo used, the UL 856 maximizes the .38 Special cartridge’s easily managed recoil impulse thanks to an ergonomic and impact-absorbing soft rubber grip. With its sure-grip material construction, finger grooves, and backstrap and side panel texturing, the UL 856’s grip ensures easy draw and positive retention in high-stress scenarios while providing a comfortable shooting experience.
